This October, Spetses will don their best tweed outfits and prepare for the 5th Tweed Run in Greece, that will take place from the 19th to the 21st of October 2018.

What is the Spetses Tweed Run?

The charming and stylish Tweed Run returns to Spetses for its fifth consecutive year and promises to be more spectacular than ever! From the 19th to 21st of October 2018 scores of cycling enthusiasts will once again meet up at the iconic Poseidonion Grand Hotel in order to explore the island, dressed up in their finest vintage garb.

The very first Tweed Run took place in London in 2009 and quickly took over the world. It “traveled” to some of the most important global metropolises and was loved by thousands of vintage cyclists. It is actually a group cycling event, where stylish cyclists wear the traditional British tweed cycling outfit, often taking short breaks for the proverbial cup of tea and picnics.

Tweed Run in Greece

Tweed Run first came to Greece in November 2014, as part of the celebrations for the 100 year anniversary of the emblematic Spetses hotel, the Poseidonion Grand. Since then, it got loved so much by Greek cyclists that has now been established as one of the most important events in Spetses, the so called Fragrant Island. The retro character of the event underlined further the aristocratic personality of Spetses island, giving it in addition a very stylish British flair.

For one more year, classic bicycles and chic appearances dressed in the traditional English tweed style will take over the island for three days,  while enthusiastic cyclists will get to enjoy leisurely rides in the charming Spetses countryside.

Moreover, many fun surprises are in store for this year’s participants, such as a bike run with the Saronic Gulf  as its background; picnics in the countryside accompanied by the sounds of jazz music; stops for English-style tea breaks; beauty pageants for the most stylish outfits; treasure hunt; skills races; and much more. This unique three-day event will culminate in an extravagant party in the lobby of Poseidonion Grand Hotel, in the style of the glamorous days of yesteryear.

About the Poseidonion Grand Hotel

The imposing historic hotel first welcomed its guests on Spetses in the summer of 1914 as a result of its visionary benefactor, Sotirios Anargyros.

Today, more than a century after opening its doors, it continues to be a symbol of hospitality that has remained faithful to its cosmopolitan past, with architecture reminiscent of iconic hotels in the French Riviera. It remains a majestic landmark on the island to this day, exuding a sense of elegance which has made it a contemporary myth.

Hendrick’s Gin

The 2018 Tweed Run is realized once again with the kind support of the Greek Cycling Museum, while this year’s sponsor is going to be Hendrick’s Ginone of the supreme premium gin brands in the world.

Hendrick’s Gin, often called the “Most Unusual Gin”, is expected to make quite a presence in this year’s Tweed Run. Hendrick’s Gin is a truly unique gin, created in small batches in Girvan, Scotland

The gin is distilled according to a very special process, which, combined with the unexpected herbal essences added, such as rose and cucumber, creates a one-of-its-kind gin, with a complex and distinct character that has made it one of the most loved gins in the world.
